PARISH MINISTRY SIGN UP: Thank you to all who have gener-
ously put their names forward for the ministry sign up. We have
received new volunteers for the following ministries: Children’s
Liturgy, Overhead Operator, Pastoral Council and the Bereave-
ment Committee.
CHURCH CLEANING: Several people have put their names for-
ward for the church cleaning ministry. If we put all the volunteers
together, there will be two months covered of cleaning in our
church. We even received volunteers from a local business or-
ganization to take on a week. Thank you. Some parishioners have
offered to do one week and offer it up for Lent! We could still use
more names! If you would consider offering your time and talent to
the cleaning ministry or any of the other ministries, it is not too
late! There are forms available by the bulletins. Forms may be
dropped off through the office door & in the collection box. Or
please call Gorette @ 635-2313 for further details.
LETTER FROM BISHOP GERRY: Dear Sisters and
Brothers,
The topic of retirement seems to be surfacing in
many areas, so let me tell you exactly what I know about it.
The law of the Church states that a bishop is to
submit his resignation to the Holy Father when he reaches
his 75th birthday. Mine happens to be at the end of June
2012. The usual response to this resignation is that “it is
accepted now to be implemented when the successor is
appointed”. This means that the bishop continues in place
until the successor is appointed. No one knows when the
when will happen at this time; it could take some time.
What do I plan to do after my replacement is
appointed? It is my intent to retire in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. While Prince George has become home for
me, I do think it would be unfair to the new bishop for me to
remain here as he takes office. Besides, there is an
instruction from Rome which states that a retiring bishop
who is a member of a Religious order should retire with his
Community. The Community of Oblates of which I am a
member is in Saskatchewan. They do have a fine
retirement home there.
After getting settled in my new home the first thing I
plan to do is take a five-month renewal program. Following
that, I hope to be able to continue my ministry of teaching
and sanctifying. This should involve me in teaching, giving
workshops, retreats, study days, replacement ministry in
parishes and things of that nature.
This, my dear friends, is the total picture at present.
Now we wait for it all to happen in due time.
Thank you for your concern and support.
Sincerely in our Lord and our Blessed Mother,
Gerald Wiesner, OMI, Bishop
